What is a Telco Cable Search?

The Telco Cable Search will identify if copper or Optic Fibre telecommunication cables run underneath a property. Should a property be found to have underground cables passing through its boundaries this can pose some serious problems for the property owner or developer if damaged. Who should undertake this search?

Various property professionals within the various sectors of property including;

  • agents and potential property buyers and owners,
  • residential and commercial property valuers,
  • property advisers,
  • property lawyers,
  • property developers and
  • those approving bank loans for property within the finance lending sectors.

This search is available Australia-wide and identifies telecommunication cables from all known carriers such as Telstra, Optus, UEComm, AAPT and PowerTel and a number of other providers. The information contained in the search result will only be as accurate as the information kept by the relevant companies/providers.

Note: Power cables won’t appear in the search result; an independent search(s) should be completed to identify their location.


Wouldn't a Title Search identify if there were any Easements on a property?

Yes, a title search does identify easements such as a right of passage over a neighbour's land or waterway, however, easements aren't required for telecommunications cables and therefore they will not appear on a title search.


What information should I enter as search criteria?

It is essential that you enter as much information as possible to ensure that you receive your desired results. Each additional piece of information that you supply helps to refine and focus the investigation thus producing better results for you. Details include:

  • Unit/Street
  • Postcode
  • Street Name
  • Lot/Plan
  • Town/Suburb
  • Date of Settlement
  • Council
  • Additional Information
  • State

How can I enter further information that may assist with my search?

Enter any information that may assist with the search in the additional information field. For example: "This is a rural property, start of west boundary is approximately 5.2kms along access road."


How will I receive my results?

Telco Cable Searches will endeavour to return search results to you via email, this assists in expedient delivery.


Approximately how long will it take to receive Telco Cable Search results?

The approximate turnaround time for these results is between 3 - 7 business days.


What information is in the result?

The Telco Cable search will advise of any major network cables (including Optic Fibre) belonging to Telstra, Optus, UEComm, AAPT and PowerTel and other carriers that pass through the specified property(s).

Our reports will contain information on communications network that may impact on the property/s and will assist you/your client in making an informed decision on the property purchase.

How do I list multiple lots?

Please submit additional Telco Cable Search orders for each Lot on Plan.


How do I know what I have requested?

An order confirmation is displayed showing the order details, recipient details, delivery details and property details. We suggest that you print this receipt and save it for your records.


Can I check my order?

The Confirm Inbox is able to keep you up to date with the progress of your document orders by displaying their change of status from Ordered to In Progress and then to Complete. A document order is complete when all components of the order have been dispatched. Selecting the status link for a document order at any stage will display the receipt produced when the order was created. Your orders will be retained in Inbox for 30 days after completion. Please note that the results of your Telco Cable Search Order will not be available through Inbox as they are processed off-line.


How will I know when my order is complete?

You can check on the progress of your search through the Confirm Inbox.


How do I access the Confirm Inbox?

How can I ensure that my order will arrive as quickly as possible?

Every effort is made to deliver orders within the shortest possible time. The most common cause of delays is incorrect or incomplete recipient information. We recommend that you check your delivery details frequently to ensure that all details are up to date and that you include both your first name and surname. Please include additional delivery information (for example, c/o Accounts Department) if necessary.
