What information will I get from a Company File Current?

A Company File Current search can be completed on all companies registered in Australia and provides:

  • Summary ABN information as provided by The Australian Business Registry, such as ABN Number, Trading Name and Status
  • A Yes/No flag indicating adverse information on the Equifax file, such as Defaults, Mercantile Enquiries, Judgements, Writs, External Administration, Petitions
  • Company Details such as Name, Start Date, ACN, Type of Company
  • Registered Office and Principal Place of Business
  • Current Office Holders (Secretaries and Directors) Names, Addresses, Dates of Birth and Appointment Dates
  • Share Structure and Shareholders
  • Documents lodged with ASIC

What additional information will I get from a Company File Comprehensive?

A Company File Comprehensive search can be completed on all companies registered in Australia and provides:

  • Previous Registered Offices and Principal Places of Business
  • Previous Office Holders (Secretaries and Directors) Names, Addresses, Dates of Birth and Appointment Dates

What information should I enter as search criteria?

Enter either the ACN number or ABN number of the company you wish to search on.


What is the correct format for an ACN?

The format for a valid ACN (Australian Company Number) is 9 digits. When entering an ACN do not allow any spaces between the numbers.


What is the correct format for an ABN?

The format for a valid ABN (Australian Business Number) is 11 digits. When entering an ABN do not allow any spaces between the numbers.


How many companies can I search on at the one time?

You can search on up to 10 companies at the one time using the Company File Multi Search.


How do I view results from a Multi Search?

To view individual results, select the COMPLETED link in the results table. This will display the Result Summary with links to your results (and search receipt if enabled). Select the links and your result will display.


What if no result is found for my search?

Fees are only charged when your search result is successful. If no results match the criteria you have entered, then an error message will display advising of an invalid ACN or ABN number.


Where are my searches stored and for how long?

Company File searches are stored in the Inbox for 30 days.


How do I order an ASIC document that is listed on my Company File result?

From the ASIC and State Business Name menu, select Multi-Search Document Orders and enter the 9 digit document number that is displayed under the ASIC DOC NO. column on your Company File search result, e.g. 311 020 035. This number should be entered as 311020035, i.e. do not include any spaces between the numbers.
