CITEC. The smart training ground for IT professionals.
11 December 2003
In keeping with the Queensland Government's Smart State strategy, government-owned information and communication technology company, CITEC, has developed the largest number of qualified IT Service Managers in Australasia.
More than 100 staff have been trained according to internationally acclaimed Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL) best practice standards, cementing the organisation's aim of being a Centre of IT Excellence.
Managers from across the financial, legal and contractual, sales and marketing and technical support areas participated in the program's certificate course, with a further 16 staff undertaking the advanced and extremely rigorous masters level Manager's qualification.
CITEC Managing Director, Dr Mark Rainbird commended his staff for their success in completing the ITIL training and associated examinations.
"The certification brings far more than simply the benefits of a service culture. IT is what drives business, and with the increased emphasis on IT-based service delivery, excellent IT support and service improves business processes thereby reducing operating costs, shortening cycle times, and improving quality and customer satisfaction," he said.
Companies like Proctor & Gamble, Caterpillar and the UK Government have all embarked on ITIL projects and have realised service and organisational culture improvements as well as tangible, bottom-line benefits. Other Queensland Government agencies are also following suit and aligning their IT service management practices with the ITIL framework.
"To achieve this level of ITIL training as an organisation presents a business accolade for CITEC, and positions the Queensland Government as being a Centre of Excellence for information technology practitioners," Dr Rainbird said.
Dr Rainbird said implementation of an ITIL framework would ensure CITEC's Queensland Government customers of world class technical expertise and resources to manage their technology outsourcing requirements.
"CITEC now leads the country in encouraging and investing in the growth of its IT professionals and service quality. Together with our smart people and the implementation of an international framework for IT Service Management, we are in an even better position to compete in our local and national markets."
